The Health Improvement Team offers a variety of workforce training sessions designed to increase confidence in discussing sexual health topics and increase their ability to signpost to the sexual health service. Training and development in sexual health awareness is available free of charge for all Sefton organisations. We are currently providing online twighlight session to support flexible access to various professions across the Sefton Borough. C Card training
Organisations who wish to participate in the Sefton C Card Scheme (community condom distribution for young people aged between 13 and 19) can get started up by accessing a two hour start up training session. All condoms and supporting resources are supplied.

- Supporting the Sexual Health of Young People
23rd September 2025 4pm - 5pm
The aim of this 60 minute Teams session training session is designed to equip professionals such as youth workers, educators, and health practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to engage young people in open, inclusive, and informed conversations about relationships and sexual health. The training explores key topics including consent, healthy relationships, contraception, digital influences, and LGBTQIA+ inclusion. To enhance the statutory curriculum, participants will deepen their understanding of young peoples’ lived experiences and develop practical strategies for fostering safe, respectful, and empowering environments.

- Contraception Choices
Tuesday 21st October 2025 4-5pm
This 60 minute Teams session aims to increase knowledge about contraception and sexual health and includes:
Methods of contraception and how these methods work;
Advantages of LARC methods;
Emergency contraception and how to access it;
Contraception myth busting;
The importance of talking about Contraception.

- We Need to Talk About STIs!
Tuesday 18th November 2025 - 4-5pm
This 60 minute Teams session aims to increase knowledge, awareness and understanding of sexually transmitted infections and includes:
the importance of screening and discussing sexual health within your role, covering:
Types of STIs including signs and symptoms and how they are transmitted and how to get an STI test;
Understanding how testing works;
Treatment and how to access support;
The value of conversations about STIs.

- Sex and the Law
Tuesday 9th December 2025 4-5pm
This 60 minute Teams session aims to increase understanding of the law in relation to consent and sexual behaviours.
• Understand the legislation relating consent and sexual activity
• understand the term consent and its importance
• increase of the Sexual Offences Act 2003
• Explore the law in relation to online protection including sexting and revenge pornography
• Gain an understanding of confidentiality when accessing sexual health services

For Young People
Developmental Programme for Young People (including SEND up to age 25)
These sessions are for students identified at risk of poor sexual health or at risk of teenage pregnancy. Topics include safe and fulfilling relationships, protecting against STIs, consent & the law, the effects of pornography and contraceptive choices. The programme is delivered over six 1 hour sessions at school or college and referrals can be made by email to the Health Improvement Team soh-tr.sexualhpteam@merseywestlancs.nhs.uk

Introduction To Sexual Health Workshop
This is a one hour face to face session which introduces learners to awareness around STIs, Contraception, Confidentiality and how to access Sexual Health Services. An ideal session to compliment students services, work schemes for students and workforce training.
For Parents
Easy Talk – Helping Parents to Talk to their Children about Relationships, Puberty & Sex!
6 week programme for parents devised in partnership with Sefton Family Wellbeing Service. This course aims to increase parent’s confidence in being comfortable talking to their children about relationships and sex. Evidence shows that this can be protective for young people and can lower the chance of them engaging in high risk behaviours.
