Welcome to Sefton Sexual Health Service. We are a free NHS service providing STI testing and treatment, contraception, HIV services,  sexual health promotion and training,  psychosexual therapy and clinical outreach in Sefton, Merseyside.

Our service is confidential, non-judgemental and is for anyone.

Our service vision is to provide a high quality, fully integrated and holistic sexual health service that is accessible and meets the needs of our local community.

The  team is made up of both clinical staff (consultants, doctors, nurses, psychosexual therapist, health care assistants) and administration staff (receptionists, sexual health health promotion).

Guidance on attending Sefton Sexual Health services Sexual and Reproductive Health Patients

Due to Covid-19 the NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public.

We are offering services in a different way to keep you and our staff safe. We are still open and can often provide support without seeing anyone face-to-face.

There are currently no walk-in services but if you want to be seen about a problem related to your sexual health please phone 01695 656550 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Please do not walk in and attend one of our clinics.

You will be registered by a receptionist who will book you in to speak to a nurse or doctor later that day. The health professional will ring you back, discuss your concerns and explain the options with you over the telephone,

If you want testing for STIs but have no symptoms please order a test here.  You will be sent tests for Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea but not HIV/Syphilis as these are less likely to be necessary.

HIV Patients

Following advice from British HIV Association (BHIVA) recommend following CROI 2020, there continues to be no evidence that people with HIV are at higher risk of COVID-19, or severe disease if affected, and no evidence regarding the impact of viral load or CD4 on either of these.

Please follow national advice as provided from the Department of Health We also advise that patients have at least 30-days medication available and sufficient supply to allow for possible travel restrictions or quarantine.

If you need additional medication please contact SPA 01695 656550 and we will do our best to support you with accessing more medication.

We will be moving to telephone consultations for patients who it is appropriate to do so and we will contact to advise you regarding your upcoming appointments.

What you can expect

As we do not have crèche facilities on site, we ask politely if you can arrange childcare prior to attending, or if you have to bring children, please bring someone who can watch them whilst you have your treatment or procedure.

We do not provide pre-marriage screening, travel or emigration certificates for STI screening/HIV or infertility screening test for patients in the private sector. We do not offer hepatitis B vaccinations for occupational health reasons.

Confidentiality

Your confidentiality is very important to us, the information that you share will remain confidential with our service.

Very rarely we may not be able to maintain confidentiality if we become concerned about your safety or safety of another person.

If we need to share information with another service, we will make every attempt to discuss this with you.

If you need to be referred onto another service or if your GP needs to know about your care, we will ask your permission first.

Only staff that work in Sefton Sexual Health can access your records with us.
